Rediff launches iShare

Rediff launches iShare

YouTube + Flickr + Napster:

Rediff have launched iShare – A one stop sharing hub for all your media needs.
As you would have figured from the title, it is a sharing platform for Videos (YouTube etc), Photos (Flickr etc), but why have I mentioned Napster? Well Napster was one of the first P2P (Peer-to-peer) sharing platforms, primarily used for sharing music. They got into an immense amount of legal hassles.

Well this move by Rediff might definitely be the push UGC and Web 2.0 required in India – but I can foresee a lot of legal issues cropping up. Though Rediff have put up a notice in the iShare app which you need to download for uploading stuff, of not uploading content not owned by us.

Files, both audio and video are being embedded in an online player in the flv format. Flv is the most preferred format for online videos.
It took me less than 5 minutes to figure out how to download songs from iShare. So one of the aims of not allowing users to download content has already failed.

How to download a song from Rediff iShare?

Select a song from the Music page.

Eg: 05 Aaj Ki Raat (6:18)

Check the URL. In this case it is: http://ishare.rediff.com/filemusic.php?id=4561

Replace this code in place of ABCD in the following

Now enter this URL into the address bar and you’ll be taken to a page which will have the download link of the song:

Copy-Paste this link to any download manager and you are done! You’ll need a FLV player to play it. Try the latest
Real Player if you don’t have a FLV player.

There are many FLV file converters freely available too. You’ll just need to spend a few minutes on Google.
